El Grupo Oncológico Cooperativo Uruguayo fue fundado por la Sociedad de Oncología Médica y Pediátrica del Uruguay (SOMPU) el 2 de junio de 2005, obteniendo la personería jurídica en junio de 2007.
Desarrolla sus actividades en coordinación con el Programa Nacional de Control del Cáncer.
MISIÓN
Propiciar y desarrollar estudios clínicos o básico-clínicos relacionados con la prevención, diagnóstico y tratamiento del cáncer, a través de investigación cooperativa y multidisciplinaria con proyección nacional e internacional.
Todo ello con el objetivo de avanzar en el control de la enfermedad, poniendo énfasis en el cuidado de los pacientes oncológicos, el uso apropiado de los recursos y una estricta adhesión a los principios éticos de la investigación.
